What Type Of Disorder Is Anxiety?

what type of disorder is anxietyIf you have been feeling nervous or anxious for no apparent reason, then the chances are that you may be suffering from what is called an anxiety disorder. Anxiety is the fear of certain things or situations that can happen. It is also known as the worry sickness and is often characterized by exaggerated levels of anxiety. This can be caused by a number of things including common events in your life such as a wedding or the start of a relationship. The level of anxiety will vary from person to person but there are some common things that are believed to cause it.

Agoraphobia is another name for this disorder and is characterized by excessive fear and avoidance of these events. Panic disorder is another term for anxiety attacks. It is when repeated episodes of panic attacks occur on a regular basis and the cause is not known. Post traumatic stress disorder can be the cause of the attacks if the patient has had some major incidents in their life that might have caused some form of PTSD. Most of the people who suffer from this disorder have had some form of an attack in the past.

Now that we know what the different types of anxiety disorders are, lets look at some of the different treatments available. Cognitive behavioral therapy is often the first recommended course of action. This works by helping the patients to identify what might be the underlying cause for the attacks and how to react to it. This is often combined with psychotherapy to help treat the mental side of the disorder.

Antidepressants are used to treat panic attacks. Some of them like Prozac and Celexa can make the attacks less frequent and therefore easier to deal with. Some people will have to take more than one type of medication to get these effects. Also SSRI's which are Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors work by replacing some of the serotonin in the brain which can be a calming factor. Also, some doctors will combine this treatment with psychotherapy to help speed up recovery time.

Now we look at the physical symptoms of panic disorder. The most common physical symptom is sweating. Many people will experience this during times of extreme stress. When panic sets in, it causes people to sweat profusely. It can often be difficult for some people to stop themselves from hyperventilating which can cause some breathing problems.

Anxieties can also cause physical symptoms. These can include stomach issues, cramping, dizziness, nausea, and chest pain. The fear of having another panic attack can make this happen. Anxiety can cause many problems and sometimes with no warning at all. It can get so bad that a person will avoid social situations or places that they know may trigger an attack. There is a very good book that you can find on what type of disorder is anxiety out there called "Learn To Recognize Your Panic Attacks" written by Kerry Tuschoff.

Dealing with anxiety is not easy on anyone. One of the hardest parts is telling someone your problem. This is hard, because even if you think they understand, their reaction will be to become defensive and then they will actually start to worry about you. If they are not able to understand what you are dealing with, they are more likely to keep quiet and pity you for your condition. Try to be as open and honest as possible because your life is important and it is worth working on it.

Do not ever lose hope when you start to feel anxious. Anxiety disorders do not mean you have a mental illness. Learn as much as you can about what type of disorder is anxiety and how to control and overcome it.
