What is Depressive Mood Disorder - Is it Serious?

What exactly is the abbreviation DMS5 depression? This depression refers to the five different types of major depressive episodes, which are recognized in the medical world. Depression is a disease or a symptom that is characterized by a significant change in the way a person feels and thinks about himself or herself. The severity of depression can range from mild to severe, in some cases. The various types of depression include; Major depressive episode, dysthymia, rebound depression, maintenance dysthymia, and post partum depression. All of these are separate conditions, each having its own set of symptoms.

The symptoms of DMS5 depression are very similar to those of clinical depression, but there are some slight differences that might be noticed. This type of depression is often experienced by those people who have suffered some form of abuse in their past. Abuse can affect your mental health in many ways; the symptoms of the depression may be different, as can the severity of the condition. The following are some of the common symptoms of DMS5 depression.

Irritability is one of the most apparent symptoms of this type of depression. People suffering from major depressive disorder tend to become easily annoyed and agitated. This is commonly seen in situations that cause the individual to be very stressed out such as work, school and relationships. When the symptoms of irritability are present, it is advisable that an individual seeks help. This might mean talking to a family member or a close friend about your daily issues and frustrations. You may also need to seek medical help because irritability can be a warning sign of more serious physical illness such as cancer, hypertension and even diabetes.

Another symptom of depression is decreased sleep pattern. Although depression cannot completely alter the sleep pattern, the lack of quality sleep can make the symptoms worse. The symptoms of irritability are exacerbated by a poor sleep pattern, which means you might not get enough restorative sleep. When the depression is caused by a poor sleep pattern, it will take time for the symptoms to diminish since the depression is often accompanied by a restless sleep pattern.

A few of the other symptoms of depression include feeling restless, an inability to concentrate and feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness. Feelings of guilt and worthlessness are common with people suffering from major depressive disorders. This leads to feelings of worthlessness, which lead to a negative self-image. These feelings are often compounded by feelings that there is nothing one can do to change their situation. These symptoms of depression can lead to greater levels of stress and anxiety which can further worsen the depression.

When the symptoms of depression are left untreated, it can have a detrimental effect on the mental health of an individual. Many people with this disorder are diagnosed with various mental health problems such as anxiety, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and other mood disorders. Other common mental health problems that can occur are substance abuse, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, insomnia and sleep apnea. Because of the severity of these symptoms, people suffering from this disorder may feel there is no hope for recovery. However, with the help of today's medication there is hope for those who suffer from depression and mood disorders.

There are many types of depression, but the most commonly prescribed medications are those which are designed to treat major depressive disorder and also those which act as mood stabilizers. In addition, anti-anxiety medications can also be used to treat some symptoms of depression. Some research has shown that SSRIs such as Prozac and Zoloft have been found to be effective in helping to treat both mild and severe depression. The SSRIs work to regulate neurotransmitters in the brain and the serotonin and noradrenaline neurotransmitters in the brain. The result is a noticeable decrease in the amount of "feel good" chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, which can cause the moods of those suffering from this disorder to change.

Other medications such as Lorazepam and Dalmane can also be used to treat this type of mood disorder. Those who suffer from DSM5 depression symptoms may not be able to use medications alone to treat their symptoms. Those who suffer from severe symptoms should consult a mental health professional such as a psychiatrist or psychologist. Those who suffer from milder symptoms should be able to use over-the-counter treatments or common over-the-counter treatments such as Chlordiazepoxide and Valium. With proper treatment, those who experience this type of mood disorder can often lead normal and healthy lives.
