Depression quotes come in many forms and can mean different things to everyone who has ever suffered from this mental condition. You may be thinking, "Oh, I'm just depressed because life is bad." Well, that is true, but what you need to realize is that you are NOT alone in this misery. Depression is one of the most widely researched mental illnesses in the US, with about 20% of the population experiencing it at some time in their lives. So, if a depression quote tells you that you're not alone, then you have found the right article to read!

When you read a sad depression quote like, "Don't be sad, be happy," it can be a helpful reminder that things aren't always as they seem. Real life sucks and when you are depressed, sometimes you don't get all the good things that life was supposed to give you. But, that's okay. You can learn to face those days by remembering why you are going through all of this. Remembering why you are not happy is an important step in regaining your happiness and finding a way out of depression.
A sad depression quote could say something like, "Don't be depressed, be happy!" This is good advice, because happiness is a good thing, after all. Happiness is the absence of sadness is just a temporary state that comes along with some serious negative feelings. Depression should be treated as soon as possible because depression is the precursor to worse feelings like sadness and helplessness. Don't fall into the hands of sadness by hiding in your own backyard and thinking that it won't happen to you.
Sometimes, it's easier to forget about your depression when you are sleeping and it's easy to just push aside the sadness and pain. But deep down, you will feel them and they will hurt you. Depression causes us to lose our freedom to act in ways that we really want to. It prevents us from being self-confident and leads us to do things that we don't normally do. So, if you are suffering from sadness and pain, finding a way to express that to others, whether in words or actions, can lead to a noticeable change in the quality of your life.
Think of all the people in your life that you love and cherish and want to make happy. Chances are, they are going through a rough patch of sad events or are deeply depressed and just need someone to talk to. Explain to them that you too are going through the same thing but that you know how lucky you are to still have love in your life despite the fact that things are sometimes sad. Explain that the sadness that they feel is because of memories that they have lost and want to hold on to that memory. Explain that it is possible for them to feel better and to feel happy again and that it is possible to find someone who is willing to work with them to help them get back those memories that they have lost.
The best depression quote I ever heard was from Dr. Norman Vincent Peal who said: "When a man comes to the uttermost depth of despair he nearly resembles a tree that has been dried up and reduced to bark. He stands there stiff and rigid, like a pine that has been dried up and left to rot." If this describes you, then chances are you have suffered depression yourself and most likely, you have tried in vain to reverse the situation.
Now, if you took Dr. Vincent's advice and attempted to reverse the situation, you most likely would be told that it is not going to happen overnight and that you are going to have to be patient. But, if you had someone else take you under their wing, it might make all the difference in the world. Someone who can give you that optimistic perspective when you need it most. Someone who can tell you that you will feel better, that you CAN feel better and that things WILL get better.
What a relief it would be to know that instead of wallowing in self pity over your depression, there is help. Depression is not a disease to be treated, it is a sickness to be cured. You can recover from depression, you just need to know how and who to turn to for assistance. When you go to your doctor, he or she will provide you with the right drugs and counseling and, in the meantime, you can do something productive to help yourself and to ease the mental pain you are suffering from. A doctor cannot do that for you, although, he or she can provide you with the correct drugs, which will take away the physical symptoms of your depression.
